The “Walking Wayfinder” Pittsburgh’s Walk’n Ride Guide

Informing Design’s solution to pedestrian wayfinding in visitor densities: the “Walking Wayfinder” sidewalk kiosk map. At each and every kiosk location, a crystal-clear 3-D map can be custom-oriented to the viewer’s immediate position based on a proprietary computer-modeling technology. First deployed at Pittsburgh bus shelters in 2004, the “Walk’n Ride Guide” features a “spider map” of key bus and light rail routes linking nearby bus stops to the city’s visitor-oriented neighborhoods and attractions.
